The Toodyay Community Safety and Crime Prevention Association (TCSCPA) has adopted 'CHOOSE RESPECT' as a 'CORE PRIORITY' for its 2018-2025 Community Safety & Crime Prevention Plan (C1.7).
What is CHOOSE RESPECT ?
Choose Respect is a COMMON LANGUAGE AND FRAMEWORK to foster a "Culture of Respect" in homes, schools, sporting clubs, work places, the environment and communities.
Choose Respect provides a clear definition:
Choose Respect provides a 'CODE OF BEHAVIOUR'
To CHOOSE RESPECT is to make a conscious effort to:
- treat others with Respect as you would wish to be treated
- treat yourself with Respect.
- resist your natural desire to pay back or take revenge.
- apologise when you do not treat others with Respect.
- support others who are not being treated with Respect.
FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES of CHOOSE RESPECT:
Principle No. 1Every human being is unique and has inherent worth and value and therefore should be treated with Respect. This type of Respect is different from the Respect that is based on fear.
Principle No. 2Respect is not only an attitude, but an observable behaviour.
- Respect for Yourself
- Respect for Others
- Respect for Positions of Authority
- Respect for Learning
- Respect for the Environment
- Respect for Property
Principle No. 3If someone is not demonstrating Respect they are making a conscious choice NOT to do so.
Principle No. 4We are responsible for our own actions and choices. These actions and choices always have consequences.
Principle No. 5It is acknowledged that we will, at some time, fall short of acceptable behaviour. A benchmark for what is right and acceptable can be worked towards to achieve a ‘standard of behaviour’ with respect partially regained by making an unreserved apology.
"Fostering a Culture of Respect in our community"
Choose Respect in Schools provides a fundamental shift from focusing on negative behaviour to encourage the school community to "Choose Respect".
Choose Respect in Sporting Organisations fosters a safe and positive environment for players, parents, coaches, umpires, referees and observers encouraging all to make a conscious effort to "Choose Respect".
Businesses and Choose Respect
Employers and employees are encouraged to make a conscious effort to "Choose Respect" but also to encourage customers to show respect to the employees.
Communities and Choose Respect
"CHOOSE RESPECT" has become a catalyst to bring people together to work for a better and safer community.
